Get paid online with a Stripe payment link

5 min read · Updated October 2026

What it is

Online payments let your GC pay a submitted pay application by bank transfer (ACH) or card, from a link you send them. The money lands in your own Stripe account and pays out to your bank on Stripe's schedule. Payments go straight to your bank — DrawFort never touches the money and takes no cut (you pay only Stripe's processing fee).

It's part of the Pro plan ($34/mo). Everything else about billing stays the same: you still build the G702/G703, still send the PDF, still get the application marked Paid — the link just adds a "pay now" button to that flow and does the marking for you.

One-time setup

  1. Go to Settings → Billing and find the Online payments card (or use Set up with Stripe on the Settings page).
  2. Click Connect Stripe to get paid online. Stripe opens its own setup page; when you're done it brings you back to Billing.

Stripe asks for the things any payment processor has to collect: your business details (legal name, address, EIN or SSN for a sole proprietor), the bank account the money should go to, and an ID for the owner. Have those handy and it takes about five minutes.

Stripe sometimes reviews a new account before it can take payments, and that review can take longer than the setup itself. Until then the Online payments card reads "Stripe is reviewing your details" — nothing for you to do. If you left Stripe's setup page part-way, the button says Finish Stripe setup and picks up where you stopped. Once Stripe enables charges, the card shows Active and payment links unlock.

Bank transfer is on by default

Bank transfer is the one to use on a draw of any size. DrawFort asks Stripe to activate ACH on your account when it's connected, and every link you create then offers bank transfer first with card as the fallback — no dashboard settings to change. The easy check: open a payment link you created and look at the payment page. If it showsUS bank accountnext to Card, you're set. If it shows cards only, ACH isn't active on your account yet: in your Stripe dashboard go to Settings → Payments → Payment methods, open the Defaultconfiguration marked “Your account”, find ACH Direct Debit under Bank debits and click Enable, then create a new link.

Fees: DrawFort adds nothing. Stripe charges about 0.8% (max $5) for ACH or about 2.9% + 30¢ for card — Stripe's standard US rates — check your Stripe dashboard for the exact rates on your account. On a $45,000 draw that is $5 by bank transfer against roughly $1,300 by card, so it pays to nudge the GC toward ACH.

Send a link

  1. Open the application and click Save & mark submitted. Submitting locks the figures, so the link always collects exactly what the G702 says is due.
  2. Click Preview (or the Payment link button that appears next to Mark paid once the application is submitted).
  3. In the toolbar, click Create payment link. The link appears in a green card above the document with a Copy link button; it stays there until the application is paid, so you can come back for it any time.
  4. Send it however you like: paste it into your own email, or click Email to GC— the PDF goes to the GC's email on file and the message includes a "Pay this application online" link automatically.

The link collects the application's Current Payment Due(Line 8). If nothing is due — a $0 period, for instance — there's nothing to collect and DrawFort says so instead of creating a link.

What the GC sees

A Stripe-hosted checkout page titled "{Project name}— Application N"with the amount due, your company name, and the payment methods your Stripe account accepts. They enter their bank details (or card), confirm, and get Stripe's receipt. No DrawFort account, no login, nothing to install. The page works exactly once: as soon as a payment is authorized the link closes, so a forwarded email can't be paid twice.

What happens when they pay

  • The application flips to Paidon its own — no "Mark paid" needed — and its figures stay locked.
  • The payment link closes so it can't be used again.
  • You get a "You just got paid" email with the amount and who paid, linking straight to the application.
  • The money sits in your Stripe account and goes to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. The exact payout date is in your Stripe dashboard.

Bank transfers take a few business days to settle. DrawFort waits for the money to actually clear before marking the application Paid, so a Paid badge always means the funds are in your account. Card payments settle immediately.

Ready to set it up?

Connect Stripe once from Settings → Billing. The next submitted application gets a "Create payment link" button.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I create a new link for the same application?

The old link stops working the moment the new one is created, so only one collectible link for an application ever exists. If you already emailed the GC, send them the new link — DrawFort asks you to confirm before replacing one.

What if I mark the application paid by hand?

Marking an application Paid yourself (because the check arrived, say) closes its payment link so the GC can't pay it twice. No email is sent in that case — the 'You just got paid' email only goes out when a link is actually paid.

Can the GC pay part of the amount?

No. A payment link collects exactly the Current Payment Due on the application. If the GC wants to short-pay, agree the amount first, then adjust the application (reopen it while it's still the latest unpaid application, or change the next one) and send a fresh link.

How do refunds and disputes work?

In your Stripe dashboard. The money is in your own Stripe account, so refunds, disputes and payout timing are all handled there — DrawFort only records that the application was paid.

Does DrawFort take a cut?

No. You pay only Stripe's processing fee, which Stripe deducts before the payout. Online payments are part of the Pro plan; there is no per-payment charge from DrawFort.

Why can't I create a link on a draft application?

A draft's figures can still change, so a link created now could collect the wrong amount later. Mark the application submitted first — that locks the figures — and the button lights up.
